This page offers some principles of etiquette for how to work with others on AmtWiki. Treating other editors with respect and understanding is key to collaborating effectively and making this wiki the best it can be. The rules of etiquette listed here are not comprehensive, but should be treated as basic rules of understanding AmtWiki etiquette.

Principles of Etiquette

  • Assume good faith from fellow editors. People come to AmtWiki both to impart and obtain information for the sake of Amtgard as a whole.
  • Treat others as you would have them treat you.
  • Be polite and civil.
  • Keep in mind that textual information comes without facial expressions, vocal inflection, or body language. Written irony is not always as obvious as verbal irony, and text can sound more rude online. Be careful choosing the words you write, and be careful how you interpret what you read.
  • Argue facts, not personalities. Do not label or personally attack people or their edits.
  • Do not purposefully ignore reasonable questions or requests.
  • Concede a point when you have no response to it, or admit when you disagree based on intuition or taste.
  • If someone disagrees with your edit, provide good reasons why you think it's appropriate.
  • If other editors are not being civil, continue to remain civil as opposed to lowering yourself to their level.
  • Be prepared to apologize.
  • Forgive and forget.
  • Recognize your own biases, and keep them in check.
  • Give praise when it's due. Everyone like to feel appreciated and an encouraging environment helps AmtWiki to grow.Leave a friendly comment on users' talk pages.
  • When reverting edits, let the user know on their talk page and calmly give your reasoning behind the revert.
  • Sign and date your posts on talk pages with "~~~~", to keep all editors accountable.
  • Remember what What AmtWiki is not.
